Living with Depression all my life hasn't been easy. I don't mean your everyday run of the mill Depression, but a serious condition that afflicts millions of people each year. There are many forms of Depression.
I have learned that I have Bipolar Manic Depression. After many years of not being able to control my many mood swings and finally trying to take my own life, I received proper treatment. With my therapy and medications I'm now able to cope better with my illness.
Many people suffer for years without being properly diagnosed. The bouts of Depression, mood changes, and erratical behavior often is contributed to stress, a woman's monthly or just feeling blue. So unfortunately many people do not seek out proper care until It's to late.
With proper diagnosis , therapy and ususally medications a person may regain control and lead a full and normal life. I have listed some signs and symptoms of Bipolar manic Depression below and some links to help or education on Bipolar disorder and many other forms of mental illness. There are more links to help on my
Links page.
Bipolar is commonly know as { Manic Depression }.This disorder is characterized by alternating periods of mood swings. A person with Bipolar experiences cycling moods that usually swing from being over elated or irritable{ Manic } to sad and hopeless { Depression }. And then back again with periods of normal moods in-between. For those of us that suffer this disorder it can be very frustrating and dissruptive in our life's.
The frequency, duration  and severity of these mood swings vary in each individual.  those that have several episodes back to back or with long durations are called rapid cyclers, and that is even more disruptive  to our everyday routines.
During my  { Manic } State I'm restless and extremly creative. I need little or no sleep and feel like I could take on most anything and succeed.
During my { Depressive } state, I have trouble concentrating, lose interest in most things I normally like to do and often think about not wanting to go on. I get extremly irrtitable when I'm in this stage due to the frustration of trying to pull myself  up out of it and not being able to.
Never take a person's threat to committ suicide lightly... If someone threatens it, it is a cry for help. Anyone who is thinking of committing suicide needs immediate help, attention, preferably from a mental health professional or a physician. Anyone who talks about suicide should be taken
SERIOUSLY! If you do not know where to get help, call the suicide hotline I've listed below or call your local police department or local hospital for help.
